Foreclosure prevention focus didn’t slow our continuing work to reduce the homeownership gap…

To say 2021 was a busy year for the Minnesota Homeownership Center would be somewhat of an understatement. We started the year lobbying the state legislature for continued mortgage relief on behalf of struggling homeowners. We executed a second round of our public outreach campaign on foreclosure prevention advisory services. And we partnered with multiple municipalities in administering millions of dollars in financial relief to homeowners in trouble.

We also pursued our first legislative agenda, working in partnership with Twin Cities Habitat for Humanity. We released the first-of-its-kind Guide to Non-Interest-Bearing Financing in Minnesota. We quantified the need for down payment assistance, and the impact it could have on the racial homeownership gap. And we spoke out publicly on the need to create more opportunities for Black families to buy a home.

As 2021 comes to a close, we don’t plan to slow down on either front. Stay tuned for more public outreach on foreclosure prevention services as forbearance winds down, more legislative advocacy as we prepare to push hard for an investment in down payment assistance for first-generation homebuyers, more partnerships with municipalities in administering financial relief to homeowners and more thought leadership on issues that will positively impact the homeownership gap. We’re energized by this unique moment in history, and we intend to keep running hard to take full advantage of all the opportunities it presents.

Thank you for your interest in our work and for all you do to help Minnesota homebuyers and homeowners every day!
